Sold-Out Show at McCabe’s

Sep 28, 2026

Last night’s sold-out show at McCabe’s was a blast! It was such a great time from start to finish. We dedicated the show to the memory of our fallen pal Russell Scott, and I kept thinking about him all through the show. I wish he could have been there with us, but I know he was there in spirit.

I sat up on the stage of the hallowed McCabe’s venue for the first time and told stories and sang songs. I had some very special guest stars: Natalie Hanna Mendoza came down and sang “Waltz of the Angels” with me (she’s so damn good, I love singing harmonies with her). Sadly I don’t think anybody got any photos of us singing together…? Dave Stuckey and I sang a Rusty and Doug Kershaw song and a Dave and Deke number from years back and shared some laughs about backing up some wild-ass original 1950s rockabillies over the years.

I sang a doo-wop song I wrote and recorded with the Velvet Candles in Spain earlier this year, and thanks to some studio technological trickery, I had the Velvet Candles vocals from our recording singing along with me in the club last night. Finally, the show was brought to a grand finale with John Bazz and Bill Bateman of the Blasters, along with Carl Sonny Leyland on piano. We rocked the hell out of the place doing some Blasters songs to close the show. It was a hell of a time.

Thanks to the folks at McCabe’s for having me, and rectifying this peculiar thing—I had never played the venue before last night! Everybody who worked there kept thinking I had played there several times before, and I had to keep telling them, no—I had never played there until now! Hoping we can continue to do shows there, it seemed like a good fit, and the sold-out crowd seemed to agree! Thanks to everybody who came out! I swiped some photos from Julia LaRiva, Stephen K Peeples and John Okanishi—much appreciated!
