Finding Bigfoot

Oct 4, 2026

I just got off the Mountain Road highway 299 that goes from Eureka to Redding—one of the most rugged and beautiful scenic drives in the whole country. I’m taking a different route home because I’m interviewing somebody for the Mosrite book in Fresno, so I pointed my vehicle east and went over this incredible mountain pass.

I was super happy to pass through Willow Creek, the Bigfoot capital of the world. They really do it up right here! You can get Bigfoot burgers, Bigfoot cannabis, Bigfoot Thai food, and stay at the Bigfoot Motel. In fact, my friend Jim Bradney took a “Bigfoot vacation” up here years ago, something I’ve always dreamed of doing myself. The mural on the side of the Ace Hardware building, showing Bigfoot assisting the Native Americans and early frontiersmen and lumberjacks is really—something!

The Willow Creek Museum was open today, and I had never been inside. Many of the original Bigfoot footprint casts from the Golden Age of Bigfoot (1958–78) were in the museum. And yes, I know I’m a sucker, but I couldn’t help spending 20 bucks on my very own Bigfoot casting, taken directly from the 1963 Al Hodgson Bluff Creek sighting. Somehow my life feels more complete now, I guess.

I believe!
