What do I do before bedtime? Well, tonight I’m watching old live videos of The Who in the mid-1960s.
What a unique, fluid, strange, wonderful, creative, powerful, fantastic drummer Keith Moon was, back in his skinny-young-kid days, before the alcohol and drugs bloated him and eventually killed him at the ridiculously young age of thirty-two.
There was only one like him, and The Who got him. Imagine how different the world would have been if there were a hundred or a thousand drummers who played like Keith Moon?
I always dig how over-the-top he was, positively driving that band. Just a powerhouse back there behind the kit. I could watch these videos over and over again.
The only problem with watching these videos before bedtime is that I’ll lay my head down on the pillow, stare at the ceiling, and imagine what it was like to be on stage with Keith Moon in 1966. The rock ’n’ roll blood will be pumping a little too fast through my brain, and it’ll take a good long while to fall asleep.
