Last night as I was leaving Wisconsin Dells, I read online about another classic supper club, Ishnala. I decided to stop there for dinner.
What a gorgeous place! Built in 1953 and retaining much of its original charm, it overlooks the river on a picturesque plateau.
There’s a sign out front that bills Ishnala as Wisconsin’s number one supper club. If that is truly the case, I can tell you why: attention to detail.
The food was excellent, the service was excellent, the ambience and lighting were excellent, and best of all: mood-appropriate music. Inside the restaurant, and even outside as you were walking along the paths, there were classic tunes by Frank Sinatra and Tony Bennett wafting through the trees. It’s amazing how simple and effective this is, and yet shocking to me how many places get it wrong. No electronic dance music or modern country here; the music fits with the environment and the ambience, and man does that work.
Bonus point: They even give you a reproduction of a vintage Ishnala postcard when you pay your bill!
Ishnala was pretty spectacular. I highly recommend it if you’re in the Wisconsin Dells area and want a classic, old-school supper club!
