I was in the neighborhood, hitting some garage sales, so I thought I would post this again (one of the few historic places in my hood).
This is the house at 10400 Columbus Avenue in Mission Hills, California, where legendary child star Alfalfa Switzer (from the “Our Gang”/“Little Rascals” film shorts of the 1930s and 1940s) was shot and killed in an argument over a $50 dog sale gone bad.
Alfalfa was a cute young boy, but turned into a greasy lowlife as an adult. Apparently, nobody liked him, and he was violent and angry all the time. He made some kind of a low Buck hustle on a $50 dog, then went back to the house to dispute the money, and the guy shot him dead. A sad story.
I find it neat to be able to reach out and touch a piece of history like this, especially in your own neighborhood, don’t you agree?
