Jimmy Garcia: “WE HAVE FIND GOLD!” Stopped at a truck stop in the olive-producing area of Andamur, and Jimmy was freaking out over the olive oil selection. After purchasing a fine-looking bottle, we went into to the restaurant to get a coffee.
After three weeks here in Spain, I’ve come to the point where I can understand most of the conversations.
The guy behind the bar sees Jimmy’s bottle of olive oil on the counter.
“That stuff’s alright. But what you really want is this stuff, here—” (points to some different olive oil they sell behind the bar).
Much deliberation about olive oil takes place. The bartender pours out a small sample of the really good stuff, and hands us some small pieces of bread. It was, as he said, exceptional. Light, flavorful, really nice. I’m not sure that I have the palate to discern between the good stuff, the great stuff, and the stuff that’s only sold behind the bar here in this part of rural Spain, but right now it’s a topic of utmost importance here at the bar in Andamur.
It’s always slow going, road tripping with Jimmy, but I prefer it, to be honest. You get a lot more of the full experience this way.
