Merle Travis Talk at the Western Swingout

May 22, 2026

Don’t miss my book talk on Merle Travis, Sunday at the Western Swingout at 5:15 PM! I’ll be talking about the book that I wrote about Merle and his life, I’ll talk about the research that it took to create it, and tell some funny Merle Travis stories you won’t hear anywhere else.

I’ll also be doing a photo slideshow with a few videos in it. Insanely great stuff!

As an added bonus, just because I feel like doing it, I will be bringing up some of the Merle Travis artifacts that I now own, including his 1953 Standel 25L15 amplifier, his 1940 Gibson EH185 amplifier, the cornet that “Ginny” Cushman played with Merle in 1947 and 1948, and some of Ginny’s vintage stage clothes. I’ll have a little table of memorabilia there for you to check out.

I will also have Merle Travis 16 Tons books for sale, which you can get autographed by the author—that’s me! Bring cash, credit card, or Venmo.

Looking forward to doing this at the Western Swingout. Sunday is going to be a really cool day there. Besides the book talk, we will be backing up Tommy Horton doing a great set of Johnny Horton songs, and then the Whippersnappers and I will play a set to close out the evening!
