Interviewing Terry McArthur today for the Mosrite book, about the year he apprenticed at Semie Moseley’s shop, 1958–59.
“Semie left Los Angeles in the summer of 1959. He wanted to sell me all of his wood and tools for $1000, but I was just a high school kid, I didn’t have money like that. He said he was going on the road as an evangelist. A few years later, I started seeing these Mosrite Ventures model Guitars showing up in the stores, and I found out he had only gotten as far as Bakersfield, set up shop, and started making guitars again.”
Terry has been making beautiful reproductions of the original Joe Maphis–style Mosrite doublenecks since 2000, he is one of the best guitar builders I’ve ever seen. Google “TNM guitars” and check out some of the amazing instruments he has built, using the visual style he learned at Mosrite and incorporating that into some beautiful new designs.
