Thanks to my old pal Porkypine Paton for hipping me to this Bobby Lord TV show episode on YouTube. It’s a guitar geek’s dream! Check it out:
1. Bobby Lord opens the show with a cool 1960s country version of “That’s All Right, Mama” with guitarist Howard Rhoton popping those “Six Days on the Road” licks on his Epiphone (and Jerry Byrd on steel guitar in the house band!).
2. Little Jimmy Dickens plays “May The Bird of Paradise Fly Up Your Nose” while bashing a Gibson Super 400 (and now it’s Buddy Emmons playing steel in the band!).
3. Bob and Lucille (yes, the same duo who cut the great rockabilly track “Eeny Meeny Miny Mo”) perform “The French Song” and then “Looking Back To See” with Bob Regan playing his custom early-1960s Mosrite Doubleneck (Bob Regan had several Mosrite doublenecks and triplenecks from the 1950s through the 1970s; I’ve actually not seen any photos or videos of him with this particular one before).
4. Jerry Wallace performs with his super bizarre “Lyric Harp Guitar,” and he and Bobby Lord discuss the instrument. I’ve wondered about this thing for years, it’s cool to see it get a little screen time and discussion.
5. Buddy Emmons performs “Four Wheel Drive,” knocking it out of the park, at 17:30. Dig that ending!
Bobby Lord has a wild death stare I never noticed before. It’s quite difficult to get used to!
