Day off today: luckily this bunch doesn’t mind a bunch of goofing off and making terrible time! If you’re one of those people who likes to get up early and drive straight to the next destination so you can make “really good time,” playing in my band is not for you!
Today we made the worst time ever! We spent the night in a lovely cabin up in the mountains in Sonoma County, near Sebastopol, California. This is one of the loveliest parts of the United States, in my opinion. We started our procrastination day by driving to the ocean by Bodega Bay. We stopped in the town of Bodega, and saw several sites associated with the Alfred Hitchcock movie The Birds, much of which was filmed there.
We got sandwiches at the general store, then we drove up the road to a pretty hillside cemetery dotted with “Naked Lady” pink flowers, and we took a mountain road with some of the most gorgeous scenery ever—the sort of landscape that just makes you play “California Dreamin’” in your head.
We stopped in the town of Occidental to get some coffee, and Bert spotted a new-in-the-box cuspidor (spittoon) at a local junk shop! It’s mine now!
I’m not sure days could be any nicer than this one. Thank goodness Bert, Zander, and Charlotte don’t mind a bit of mucking about! It’s what I do best!
