Really sad to hear that my friend Randy Richter has passed away from cancer.
Randy was a seriously great German rockabilly guitarist, and was especially talented in figuring out the way that the guitar parts and the guitar tones were achieved on many of our favorite records. He recorded a huge number of guitar instructional videos that were really well done and insightful. I know there were many times when I’d have to learn a song quickly and I thought to myself, “I KNOW Randy has a video on how to play that lick online,” and he always did. He was a wealth of knowledge. His last gift when he knew he was dying was to make all of these lessons free and available to the public.
Beyond his talent, Randy was one of the nicest guys I ever met. He was always smiling and happy and super positive. I remember a few years ago, he traveled for many hours to bring me a Telecaster for me to use at the Firebirds festival in Germany. I will always remember his friendship and generosity.
Thank you to Steffi Hudl for taking care of Randy through his cancer years. Condolences to you, Steffi, and all of Randy’s family. Gonna miss you, buddy.
