Had another good day in Bakersfield, photographing a few guitars at my friend Marc Lipco’s place. Marc used to own a pawnshop here in town where I bought my first Mosrite doubleneck guitar back in 1991 (borrowing three hundred bucks from my friend Dave Stuckey). Marc is still at it and has a couple of incredible pieces I photographed for the book, including Bill Woods’s late-1950s Mosrite electric guitar (it was originally sunburst, then repainted red white and blue in the mid-1960s—Bill Woods was the guy who had the idea for the “patriotic guitar,” which Buck Owens saw and copied on his guitars for the rest of his career). There was also a wild early-1970s Bob Venn guitar with Hallmark and Mosrite parts, finished in a crazy purple cream, sunburst flake finish. A truly wild guitar! Thanks, Marc, it was great to see you again and spend some time with you!
