Some of you vintage house nerds may have seen the real estate listing that’s been making the rounds of an incredible midcentury modern house in Salina, Kansas. Sally and I really wanted to look at it on our drive home, and it completely blew us away. It is a 100% time capsule, 1958 house designed by an architect who then lived in his dream house until he passed away. A one-owner house! Everything is completely original and very well taken care of: original kitchen, original bathrooms, even the original Eames and Herman Miller furniture is all exactly as it has been for 60+ years.
At $325K it seems super cheap by East or West Coast standards, but that goes a long way out here in the Midwest. I have sort of been keeping my eye out for a time capsule house like this, but I’m not sure if Salina, Kansas, is for me. This would make somebody an incredible retirement home, or artist’s or writer’s getaway (the upstairs “bedroom” is actually an architect’s design studio), someone I know needs to buy this—but PLEASE, PLEASE, don’t change a thing!
