Yesterday we went to Dobbins Lookout in South Phoenix, at the top of South Mountain overlooking the city. It’s an incredible desert overlook, with lots of cacti and mountains and beautiful scenery all around. Best of all, the old CCC stone building from the 1930s at the top of the lookout is where Duane Eddy shot the photo for his Especially for You album cover in 1959. (Kudos to Bert Avalos for finding this location!)
The Whippersnappers and I got to the top just before sunset, hoping to shoot some photos in the archway to use as individual photos on the back of our next album cover. The scenery was so beautiful, and the light was so perfect, we wound up taking photos that will be the front and back album cover for our upcoming CD and LP! (big thanks to Sally Jo and Michelle LaValley for taking the photos!)
A big crowd gathers at Dobbins lookout every night at sunset, so while we were there, we also performed a couple of songs and shot videos for the onlookers. They seemed to enjoy this group of freaks with musical instruments and Western suits interrupting their sunset viewing. I’ll post one of those videos later, but for now, enjoy some teaser shots from our photo session yesterday.
March in Arizona is a beautiful thing, the weather was perfect, the air was clean, and the sunset was to die for!
