Wow, what a cool experience! We stopped in Lakeland, Florida, to see where George Jones and Tammy Wynette lived in the early 1970s. We got there and it was a gated house, and we started to take photos. Just then a pickup truck approached, and Christian told the woman we were musicians checking out where George Jones and Tammy Wynette used to live. Turns out the woman was Amanda Byrd, wife of Dino Lee, a famous singer-entertainer-musician who spent time in both Los Angeles and Austin. She invited us in!
We got the whole tour. It was incredible! The house and the property were beautiful, and they’ve done a great job of renovating it. We got to see both the garage where George took the riding lawnmower out to go to the liquor store, the chip in the tile floor in the guest house where George fired off his gun one night after sleeping in the doghouse, and the beautiful grounds where George and Tammy played some outdoor shows in the early 1970s. All of us were saying to ourselves, We can’t believe our luck. Thanks so much, Amanda! We really appreciate it!
