I had an extra hour before heading to the airport with nothing to do, so I took the world’s quickest side trip to Leavenworth! I wanted to see the famous Leavenworth prison, of course. Wow, is it massive and imposing and scary in person! This is the famous prison where people like Machine Gun Kelly and James Earl Ray were kept. Leavenworth is also home to the country’s biggest military prison, located on Fort Leavenworth, which is close by.
I snapped a quick couple of photos of the prison and was promptly chased off by security. I then had about fifteen minutes to check out the C. W. Parker Carousel Museum, which was pretty hip! Apparently Parker had the factory in Kansas that made all the old carousels. The museum was pretty neat, and you got to ride one of the carousels at the end of the tour. That was officially the quickest side trip to Leavenworth one could possibly take. I did it so you don’t have to! I know a lot of people out there don’t believe me, but Kansas can be really fun!
